Pre-Event Work Weekend for the Firefly Festival
From its inception in 2003, Firefly Arts Collective has helped to foster art and community through its interactive, multi-day, outdoor arts and culture event held annually over 4th of July weekend. Inspired by the principles of Burning Man, and rooted in creative individual participation, the annual Firefly event is recognized as an official Burning Man regional. A few years ago the collective obtained official 501(c)3 non-profit status. Since that time, our focus has expanded to more year round activities in addition to our annual event “up in the woods”.
Firefly community members are creative and eclectic individuals. We come from many walks of life: artists, scientists, healers, engineers, dreamers, makers—and gather together to create a temporary zone for radical self-expression. We paint, sculpt, light things on fire, write code, cook food, build things, dance, destroy things — all activities to engage the creative spirit. We make art happen and cause unexpected interactions to be realized.
We foster a collaborative artistic community by:Creating and running Events and gatherings that showcase our community’s creative endeavors.Managing a Creative Art Grant program to help incubate participatory art for Firefly and beyond.Promoting and announcing events, shows, and gallery openings in this artistic community AND its connected regional artistic communities.Managing key communication tools such as this website, announcement lists, a discussion list, and social networks. From its inception in 2003, Firefly Arts Collective has helped to foster art and community through its interactive, multi-day, outdoor arts and culture event held annually over 4th of July weekend. Firefly is a multi-day arts event that happens in the woods of Vermont on 4th of July, inspired by the Ten Principles of Burning Man. - Our mission is to foster a collaborative environment and community for participatory arts, encouraging people to express their creativity, and challenging them to extend their concept of both community and art. -
FLOTILLA/FLOTTILLE is the first transnational gathering focusing on nomadic and temporary elements of contemporary artist-run culture in Atlantic Canada. From September 21st to 24th 2017, participants from around the world will work alongside regional artists and practitioners to re-imagine artist-run culture in a series of public exhibitions, events and discussions in and around Charlottetown, PE. Taking inspiration from a nautical metaphor of boats banded together in open water, FLOTILLA/FLOTTILLE speaks to the shifting tides within cultural practice: ideas of nomadism, isolation, transition, exchange, and innovation. FLOTILLA/FLOTTILLE’s program considers the flexible, responsive and provisional forms of organization that are increasingly necessary for the sustained evolution of contemporary artist-run culture. Innovative platforms for artistic collaboration will be a key focus. FLOTILLA/FLOTTILLE’s discourse will happen outside traditional spaces of power, on beaches, over the lunch table, at night, and in the public square, focusing on artistic production through current social and political themes. FLOTILLA/FLOTTILLE aims to strengthen artist-run networks, exploring the emancipatory idea that artist-run space-making encourages owning the means of production; through cultural negotiations and conversations around food, collaboration, floating architecture, and the travelling archive as platforms to reach new audiences. We will explore pertinent ideas including: cultural negotiation, documentation, imaginary futures, identify and challenge past and current colonial gestures, and emphasizing how our relationship with available creative “spaces” affects artistic productivity.

At Foreverland, we invite you to explore the duality that exists within each one of our very souls and hearts. The container we create is meant to be an homage to both. Whether you are experiencing the innocence of your inner lost boy/girl’s sweetest intentions, or conversely; expressing your your wildest desires, and mischievous pirate fantasies, Foreverland gives us a safe container and playground to explore these dualities, and ultimately to embody the harmony that lies between. For 3 magical days we have permission to go deep, explore, experiment, and roar OUR TRUTH! Foreverland is a place of radical co creation and activated participation. Bring your costumes, characters, and unbridled imagination; if there was no self-doubt, no inhibition – what is your Foreverland?
